There's a movie named "The wife" and you can probably watch it on Amazon prime. So basically the movie is about what makes the protagonist question her life choices on the way to Stockholm with her family to stand beside her husband as he is about to receive his noble prize in literature. Sorry for ruining the movie for you but later the movie reveals that the writings belonged to the wife. She was the one who was the author of the noble prize winning piece of literature. There are a set of different reasons why she writes under the name of her husband. One, was afcourse that female writers weren't accepted and celebrated as the the male writers were. Female writers were treated as misfits or guests to a profession that was otherwise male-dominated.
So yes, for many decades Literature was a male-dominated area. It took a long time for women to change the way they were perceived in this sector. It look a long long time before they could proudly write their name beneath their creations. Before that, either their work was anonymous or was titled with name of a man.
